In this episode of Pleasure Starters, a podcast miniseries inviting you to tangibly create more pleasure in your life through pondering my questions, I ask: why are you apologizing when you’re not sorry?
Especially for those socialized as women, and even more for women of color, we are taught to apologize for any and everything we do that doesn’t meet the standard of societal expectations. Since these are subjective and ever evolving, we end up apologizing for taking up space, making noise, slightly inconveniencing anyone else – we end up apologizing for simply existing.
My mission is to help you get comfortable taking up all the space unapologetically. In this episode, I share a recent story of how I caught myself in this same cycle and what I did and said in the moment instead of apologize. This episode is to help you call attention to where you are apologizing unnecessarily and rewire your brain to take up space as you are instead of as who you think you need to be.
And it goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway: still apologize when you want to and when you’re actually sorry, just stop defaulting to your own wrongness when it’s not even a part of it.
